It will be missed but it will not be my last 90’s / 00’s bmw. I listed it for $4,200 and sold it for $4,100 to the first person who looked at it, extending my streak of selling things to the first serious buyer to about 5 now.

Anyway, I’ll miss driving it but I won’t miss having a 4th car to deal with.

So cheers.

End of an era! I trust it went to a good home

For real, I’ve had an E46 wagon for 10 years, this one for 5. I believe it did go to a good home. Good transaction on both sides.

Bikes are good, $4100 is a good start.

I loved my 01’ 325it. It was sport and premium. 80k miles. Automatic. I wasn’t a fan of the wood trim but silver on grey interior was clean. Wish I still had it... wish I still had many of the cars I’ve sold... but I wouldn’t have my current toys if I’d kept everything!

What was your selling process like? You just put up your Craigslist ad and waited? Did you get many responses?

Nicely done! Selling a car is a unique experience. A little bit of regret with a whole lot of relief and excitement.

Exactly, I took a lot of decent pics and wrote a pretty detailed ad. I priced it a little high and got nothing for almost a week. Then one, two, three serious inquiries, this guy was the first to make actual arrangements to show up. He was not disappointed.

I wish I could have kept it but I also have a feeling of relief that I have one less thing to care for now. With two young kids and two dogs, a house, 3 other cars, and a boat, not to mention various other things like 5 acres of land and all the upkeep of that plus the tools necessary for said maintenance... it really came down to simplification.

Man, I know I could go to my local shop and spend all of that cash and then some. But I’m going to be patient and look for a late-season deal. I’ve got lots of feelers out in my local MTB circle.

Thanks! Yeah I was surprised to get that much, but the more I thought about it, the more I became confident that I could just wait for the right buyer. I didn’t think my car could stand up to the scrutiny of Bring a Trailer, but anyone looking for an old BMW wagon would recognize this one for what it was.

I may have almost cried when I heard it start up and leave my driveway. I loved that sound!

I know! I actually thought at the price I had listed, it would take a while to find the right buyer. I did not intend to negotiate on price much, which I knew might extend the process. I was wrong about that! I had a moment of regret the day before meeting the buyer, but my wife reminded me of all the reasons I originally gave her for selling it - this was all my idea, beginning to end, believe it or not haha.

I will definitely miss it. But I also daily-drove a 2001 Suburban for a while back in 2007-2009 so I’ll survive the Volvo for a while and maybe I’ll pickup a nice E39 5-speed wagon someday in the future. Mechanically they’re pretty much the same as the E46 and I’d be very comfortable checking one out, knowing what to look for, all that. I suspect the Volvo will give me plenty to think about when I start driving it every day anyway.

Meanwhile, I get to daily the truck over the summer. Losing one car from the fleet only means the truck will get used more, which is a clear win.

Pinkbike buy sell is also a good resource. It is better if you are a common frame size. I almost bought a specialized epic on pink bike.

I’m still in touch with the guy who bought mine. He still loves it and it’s going strong. It’s nice to get updates. Maybe you’ll get them too.

You sound like me...

Two kids, one dog, house with 5ac, two daily drivers, tractor, M5, 12-valve project...

Less can be more enjoyable.

I don’t have an M5 but I do have a wake boat, probably similar in terms of pain to wallet haha. It’s a balance for sure...

Do post more about the M5 though I won’t object!

Boat and sports cars are definitely in the same category of “rarely financially beneficial”.

Will do. Been working so it’s been hard to collect my thoughts, findings, and research.
